Home to the ringtail, the community of Arivaca was founded and named after La Aribac Ranch, a Pima word for "small springs". The community is in south central Arizona, about sixty-two miles south of Tucson. Amado is an unincorporated community, and a census-designated place (CDP) in Pima County, Arizona. The community is nestled in the Santa Cruz River Valley at an elevation of 3,643 feet above sea level. The community of Arivaca lies in the valley northeast of the San Luis Mountains at the southeast end of the Las Guijas Mountains. While Arivaca Lake lies about 5 miles upstream on Arivaca Wash. 84% of residents who live in the community of Arivaca own their homes while 16% of the locals rent. The median home age in the Arivaca community is 33 years.
