The community of Amado is named after
the Amado family who originally owned the land. You know you are in Amado when you spot the gigantic “longhorns”. The community is in south central Arizona, about
forty miles south of Tucson. Amado is an unincorporated community, and a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Cruz County, Arizona. The community is nestled
in the Santa Cruz River Valley at an elevation of 3,097 feet above sea
level. Amado is bordered by Santa Rita Mountains to the east and the Cerro Colorado
Mountains lie across the range to the west. Mount Wrightson is the highest point in the Santa Rita Mountains with a 9,456 feet of prominence. 65% of residents who live in
the community of Amado own their homes while 35% of the locals rent. The
median home age in the Amado community is 49 years.
