How To Create Bountiful Edible Garden

With a thoughtful layout and careful selection of plants, edible gardens can be destinations in the garden, not just for harvesting but also as places of beauty. Here are eight design strategies for setting up your kitchen garden.

Setting Up Your Edibles

  1. Adopt an orderly layout for your edible garden to make it easier to maintain.
  2. Position low growing plants to the front of the border and tall edibles towards the back.
  3. Do not leave open spaces so you don't end up with a lot of weeds.
  4. Plant a variety of plants and different colors.
  5. Add flowers to the edges of the edibles plantings.
  6. Use containers for herbs so you can easily snip to add to your cooking.
  7. Plan a sitting area near your edible garden to admire the progress.
  8. Add  trellis as focal points by placing them where you'd like to direct gaze.
