Brown Minimalistic Garden Design

LIMIT YOUR PLANT PALETTE

Minimalist design is all about restraint, avoid opting for too many plant species. Limit the number of plants specified in the design and use these repeatedly throughout the garden. Add texture by use hardy weather-resistant and evergreen plantings such as bamboo, succulents, grasses, and boxwood in an asymmetrical composition. When possible, incorporate synthetic lawn in the edging because it is always green and a sustainable material that virtually needs no upkeep. This type of garden is an excellent choice for a person who works long hours and/or travels frequently and prefers a clean, smart, and low maintenance garden.

Earthy Browns

Brown is the color of earth and is abundant in nature and plants are center stage when deciding on the colors in the garden. In the right context brown can be a beautiful and elegant color choice, provoking feelings of warmth, honesty, and connectedness with nature. Brown hues in the garden also include existing features and structures like rocks, paving and other natural objects. Neutral colors always work well with brown, such as tan & beige.

CREATE BOUNDARIES

Borrow from the Japanese tradition of visualizing gardens as miniaturized nature by pairing plants in twos, threes, fives, and sevens, use stone, moss, and evergreens to give the space a timeless feel. Used polished concrete or limestone for the patio, ceramic or steel for the planters, artificial turf, and gravel.

Stabilizing hues with the ability to bring a grounded naturalism to garden designs

Plants foliage with the color of the earth make great focal points in the garden, and create drama when planted with bold colors like chartreuse. Many bronze plants have flowers in complementary colors, adding to their appeal. These shrubs range in size and shape, and can vary from small and mounding in habit to large and grass like. Leaf color may vary depending on the level of light, and may be bronze with reddish or purple overtones. Leaves tend to be greener when these plants are placed in shaded growing conditions.
